These are some flowers I made that went on top of an Easter cake (that I also made) a while back. They were my first fondant projects, and the endless rolling, recoloring, and shaping was arduous, but I guess it was fun in the end. They were far from perfect, to say the least, with oversized bulging bases, but from most angles, they looked spectacular. The cake came out great- the frosting and fondant were mint-flavored, which turned out to be a big hit. I think next time, though, I’ll save a little time and skip flavoring the fondant. While it was a nice touch and made the doughy covering taste a bit better, the fresh taste of the mint frosting was already quite powerful, and incorporating the mint extract evenly throughout the fondant wasn’t easy.
Hopefully next time I’ll make my own fondant rather than just going to the store and buying the giant Wilton tub. But, to be fair, I did color it myself!
